Fisher & Farmer: A Chinese Style Restaurant with a Flaming Sensation

Bringing the Heat to the Dining Experience

Fisher & Farmer, a Beijing, Sichuan, and Cantonese cuisine restaurant, combines color, aroma, and taste to create a hot and spicy journey for its customers. With its distinctive design and bold use of colors, the restaurant sets the tone for a baking-hot feeling and displays a refined elegance of Chinese dishes and environment.

The design of Fisher & Farmer is centered around the concept of Chinese pavilions. Wooden giant red floor standing portals greet guests at the entrance, creating a sense of grandeur and excitement. Inside, a curved ceiling reminiscent of pavilions hangs above, while booth seats and a small pond below add to the overall ambiance. The raised flooring in the middle creates a multi-level effect, giving guests the feeling of squeezing through Chinese pavilions.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was a large structural column obstructing the restaurant gate. Instead of seeing it as an obstacle, the designers turned it into a feature by incorporating it into the door design. The bold red color chosen for the entrance area attracts the attention of passersby, while beautiful flowers welcome diners and enhance privacy.

The overall layout plan of Fisher & Farmer was carefully crafted to meet the client's requests. The charcoal wood veneer used throughout the restaurant enhances the hot feeling and adds a touch of refinement to the Chinese dishes and environment. The dry aging cabinet, strategically placed near the entrance, immediately captures the attention of guests and showcases the restaurant's commitment to quality.

Operating Fisher & Farmer is a seamless experience. The artistic painting on the walls, inspired by the pavilions, adds an extra layer of attention to detail and enhances the overall dining process. Customers can expect to spend a longer time experiencing the hot and spicy journey that the restaurant specializes in.

The Fisher & Farmer project started in April 2018 in Hong Kong and was completed in August 2018. The 6,590 square feet space was transformed into a visually stunning restaurant that combines traditional Chinese elements with contemporary design. The result is a unique dining experience that appeals to both locals and tourists.

Vincent Chi-Wai Chiang, along with Susanna Hing-Yin Wong and Leo Tsz-Chng Lau, were the creative minds behind Fisher & Farmer. Their research focused on bringing out shocking feelings without increasing stress levels. The restaurant's design and ambiance aim to create a memorable and enjoyable dining experience for every guest.

Fisher & Farmer's exceptional design was recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. Fisher & Farmer's unique approach to combining Chinese style with a flaming sensation sets it apart from other restaurants in the industry.

Step into Fisher & Farmer and embark on a hot and spicy journey like no other. Let the bold colors, distinctive design, and refined elegance transport you to a world of Chinese culinary delights.
